ARBITRATION/MEDIATION AND OTHER INSURANCE COVERAGE EXPERIENCE

Beginning in 1990, Ms. Billingham started her own law firm and represented insurance and reinsurance companies in various matters, including insurance coverage disputes. Many of these matters included asbestos and other environmental commercial general liability coverages such as RSI and advertising injury, and as such she represented insurers and reinsurers in many matters including Pittsburgh Corning, Babcock and Wilcox, Halliburton/Dresser, Federal Mogul, Asarco and Foster Wheeler.  These cases were extensively litigated, arbitrated and/or mediated over many years and involved negotiations of billions of dollars and coordination with dozens of counsel and insurance specialists, as well as judges, trustees and class representatives.  She also counseled reinsurers and insurers in commutations, contract drafting and interpretation, letters of credit disputes and recoveries, and represented clients in reinsurance arbitrations.

REINSURANCE RUNOFF  EXPERIENCE

After litigating insurance defense cases beginning in 1982, Ms. Billingham was recruited as part of a team of officers in 1985 to run off the Armco Group of insurance and reinsurance companies.  As Vice President, General Counsel  and  Secretary  for  Universal   Reinsurance Corporation in Cincinnati, and several of its affiliates such as Northwestern National Insurance Company, Compass Insurance Company, Bellefonte Reinsurance Company and British National Insurance Company, she was primarily responsible for negotiating and managing hundreds of millions of dollars in commutations, audit issues, recoveries and letters of credit, as well as supervising litigation and  arbitrations to successful resolution.  She managed the runoff specialists and coordinated with other departments such as financial services, claims, accounting, actuarial, systems and the Board of Directors.  Currently, Ms. Billingham provides consulting services to clients such as the Ohio Insurance Liquidator’s Office managing all reinsurance matters on its several insurance estates in liquidation or rehabilitation. This, combined with her extensive experience in alternative dispute resolutions, has given her the ability to offer a unique background and expertise in identifying and evaluating issues, and arriving at a resolution that is sensible and cost-effective, with attention to detail and a focus on results.
